Louis Zimmer Class of 1960

May 23, 1941 ~ February 20, 2022

“…With much sadness and tears, I learned my brother, Louis Zimmer, passed away in his sleep yesterday. He would have been 81 come May… RIP dear brother and may you breathe deep and win those bingo jackpots.. love you…”

“…It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing away of my BIG brother, Louis C. Zimmer 111, 80 yo, passed away Sunday 2/20/22 @ home. He is the first & oldest of my siblings to pass away. He is at peace & free of pain. He was a proud Air Force vet, father, grandfather. He loved “tinkering” & good at Bingo, puzzles, traveling & thinking of others – remembering to send you a card for every occasion. He was the one who took me to my interviews at Bellevue & Kings County for nursing school & said I should go to Kings County bc the girls were prettier & nicer. Lol. It was he who picked me up in Brooklyn in the corvette when I broke my metatarsal & on crutches, laughing. That relaxed me! I was to be in his wedding the following week but managed to walk down the aisle, crutch-free too. My hero. When he was in the Merchant Marines he went to Vietnam & saw action. He managed to bring home many great gifts for me & Mom. He had worked at the Post Office & was fond of saying ” every stamp you put on your mail, you are contributing to my pension!” He was good at staying out of trouble, he kept quiet & played innocent whereas my brother Michael was the complete opposite. Lol. They were very close to each other. We had a happy & busy house of adventures. So much more I can say. Sorry I didn’t get the full recipe for how to make artichokes in a pressure cooker!! We had the same food tastes so it was easy to go out to dinner or cook for him. I will miss you, big brother. Until we meet again, enjoy the family/friend reunion in heaven. We will celebrate your life (Tba)here. Obeying your request not to have a funeral. Love you & thanks for the memories, even when you & Mike practiced your wrestling moves on me! I laughed when you thought you were young enough to wrestle my sons & wound up breaking a rib. Never a dull moment. We were the ZIMMER’S!…”Remembered by his sister Jerralyn Stevenson. Tracy Piscitello, and Marilyn Zimmer Harris
