I’m raising funds for my mother, Katrina, following the passing of her partner and best friend, Ronald “Ron” John Kimbley. Ron had been sick for some time and was admitted to hospice at the beginning of this month. After his condition declined significantly over the last several days, Ron passed away peacefully this morning. Katrina and Ron shared almost 18 years together, building a life filled with love, companionship, and friendship. Today, my mom isn’t only grieving the loss of her partner—she is grieving the loss of her best friend and the person who has been by her side for nearly two decades. After nearly 30 years as a nurse, my mom has spent much of her life caring for others. In Ron’s final days, she was exactly where she wanted and needed to be: by his side, caring for him and making sure he was surrounded by love. While her experience as a nurse helped her understand what was happening and find some comfort in knowing Ron would no longer be suffering, nothing can prepare someone for losing the person they love. Being there for Ron also meant missing work, and now she is facing funeral and cremation expenses without funds set aside to cover them. The financial burden is something I don’t want her to have to carry on top of the grief she is already experiencing. Donations will go toward Ron’s cremation and funeral expenses and help give my mom some financial breathing room while she takes the time she needs away from work to grieve, handle arrangements, and begin adjusting to life without her Ron. If you are able to donate, no amount is too small and every contribution will mean more to our family than we can express. If you aren’t able to give, sharing this fundraiser would be just as appreciated. Thank you to everyone who has prayed for, checked on, and supported Katrina and Ron throughout Ron’s illness and final days. And thank you for continuing to surround my mom with love as she faces the days ahead. Rest peacefully, Ron. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed.
