NEWPORT NEWS – Retired Senior Chief Alfred John Plachinski, Jr., 70, has “Gone Fishing.” Al passed away on December 31, 2014. He was born April 3, 1944. He was a proud US Navy Chief, Vietnam Veteran, and fisherman. He was an even better husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Sr. and Helen; sister, Jeanette; and brother-in-law, Harry. Al is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mildred; daughters, Debbie Hinton (John), Laura Falls (Jeff), and Margaret Owens (Ken); sister, Mary Ann; brothers, Joseph (Pat), Walter (Marlene); and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the funeral home, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Al’s name to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
