LYONS, James D. “Jim,” 50, of Apollo Beach, died Wednesday, October 5, 2005. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in journalism. He worked in TV news as an investigative reporter and won four Emmy awards, the Livingston Award for outstanding young journalists, and the DuPont Columbia Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism. He was an investigator for the Florida attorney general’s office from 1990-2000. After he was diagnosed with cancer, Jim and his wife, Julie, took off in their sailboat, Iolani, and lived their dream of cruising full time. He was a commodore in the Seven Seas Cruising Association, a member of the Tampa Sailing Squadron and a member of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of 18 years; his parents, Dottie and Jim of Wantagh, N.Y.; and a sister, Chris of Framingham, Mass. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Apollo Beach.
