George J. Eherts, 88, of New Milford, CT, died Saturday, October 10 after a brief stay at the Regional Hospice of Danbury. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Jane (Spracklin) Eherts, who was eagerly awaiting their reunion in heaven.
Born in Middletown, New York on January 16, 1927 to Roy and Edna (Broas) Eherts. George attended Middletown High School, enlisted in the Army near the end of WW II, went to Albany Teachers College on the GI Bill and taught high school History, Math, English and Spanish in Elmira, Leroy and Wantagh, NY. After retiring from teaching, George and Barbara owned and operated the Dogwood Lodge in Radford VA.
He is survived by two sons, David Eherts and his wife Mary of New Milford, CT and Todd Eherts and his wife Ellen of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters Shirley Wilcox of Middletown, NY and Dolores Holland of Foxborough, MA and brother Roy (Junior) Eherts of Middletown, NY; and six grandchildren Kevin, Faith, Scott and Nicholas Eherts of New Milford, CT and Matthew and Andrew Eherts of Las Vegas, NV.
A Funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 18 at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of New Milford, followed by an internment in Center Cemetery, New Milford. Arrangements by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, CT.
