STENCEL – Josephine Catherine “Chickie”, age 72 of Wantagh, NY, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Mineola, NY. Josephine was born on January 11, 1944 to the late Michael and Frances Chioccariello. In 1967, Josephine married the love of her life, Gerald, after meeting a year before at a dance at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. They moved to Wantagh, NY in 1975, where Josephine and Gerald raised their family. In addition to raising her two children, she also taught computer classes in the Wantagh School District and religious education classes at St. William the Abbott Church, in Seaford, NY. She was a dedicated member of the Red Hat Ladies, a league bowler at Wantagh Lanes, a high school wrestling fan for the Wantagh Warriors, a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout den mother and was named Wantagh/Seaford Citizen’s Mother of the Year in 1989. She made a difference in the lives of many. Her smile, her warmth, her heart of gold and her love for her family and friends will always be remembered. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; her sister Frances; her daughter Francine and son-in-law Jeff Ritts; her son Michael and daughter-in-law Melissa; and her three grandchildren Holden, Logan, and Jordan. Wake services will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Wantagh Abbey Inc., 3374 Park Avenue, Wantagh, NY. A funeral Mass will take place on Friday, February 12, at 10:15 a.m. at St. William the Abbot Church, 2000 Jackson Ave., Seaford, NY 11783. Memorial donations may be made in Josephine’s name to St. Jude’s Hospital.
