Andy was born on May 1, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, to Irving M. Davies and Dorothea Bauersfeld Davies. Andy attended NYU University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Masters in Guidance. He married Evelyn Marie Klein in June of 1950. Andy actively served in the US Navy during the Korean War in charge of schools in the Brooklyn Navy Yard from 1952-1954 and retired as a Lieutenant Commander after serving in the US Naval Reserves for 20 years. He taught industrial arts at a private school in Greenwich, CT. After the Korean War, in 1954, he moved to Wantagh, NY, resuming his career as a shop teacher. In 1962, he became the principal of the newly completed Wantagh Junior High School. He retired in 1983 after being a principal for more than 20 years. Evelyn and Andy enjoyed sailing, skiing and golfing in their free time and Andy served as Commodore of the South Bay Cruising Club. They were avid church goers attending the First Presbyterian Church in Babylon, NY and then subsequently the First Presbyterian Church in New Bern, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Dorothea Davies, his brother, Edward Davies, and his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Davies.
Andy is survived by his two sons: Doug (Barbara) Davies of Stony Brook, NY, and Peter (Heather) Davies, Ashburn, VA; his six grandchildren: Brittney Davies, Jersey City, NJ, Kristen (Marc) Langone, Long Beach, NY, Kyle Davies, Christiansburg, VA, Stefen Davies, Brockport, NY, Andrew Davies, Blacksburg, VA, Kaelynn Davies, Ashburn, VA; and his great-granddaughter, Brielle Langone, Long Beach, NY.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Andy’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
