Robert Edward Winchell was born February 18, 1947 in Manhattan, New York. He was raised in Long island, New York where he grew up with a passion for fishing and boating with his father, brother, and friends. He enlisted and served in the United States Army for 27 years with a combat deployment during the Vietnam conflict. When returning home on leave from the Army, he met his wife Barbara Winchell and married her on August 3, 1968. He became a father of two beautiful daughters Dawn and Robin, whom were his pride and joy. He cherished taking camping trips with his family and continued the tradition with his grandchildren; Alex, Kimberly, and Marissa. He lived his life in the service of others by serving his community in many ways, including volunteering and working for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in Lake Elsinore and Moreno Valley, California. His hobbies included fishing, cruise line trips , playing pool with his veterans club, watching history documentaries and having lengthy discussions of past and present events. The love he had for his two dogs, candy and snickers, was so deep it cannot be put into words. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was as a man who always placed the needs of his family before his own and loved each of us very much and will be deeply missed.
Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Winchell, children, Dawn Galaske and Robin Luis, grandchildren: Alejandro, Kimberly and Marissa Luis, great grandchildren: Nicholas Brown and Madelyn Luis, sister, Jeanette Winchell and brother, Bruce Winchell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Sophie Winchell. He will be missed by all who knew him. A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix AZ 85024.
