James Michael Grieshaber Obituary
James Michael Grieshaber, age 72, of Shirley, New York, passed away suddenly on July 22, 2026. He was born on February 14, 1954.
Jim grew up in Wantagh, New York, where he attended and graduated from Wantagh High School. He went on to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, serving from 1976 to 1978. During his time in the Navy, he married the love of his life, Joanne Payze.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Joanne; his three daughters, Meg Lisnoff, Erin Grieshaber, and Bridget Grieshaber; and his cherished grandchildren, James and Kirstin Lisnoff, and Christopher, Sara, and Marissa Keiser. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Lucky, and his cat, Half Pint.
He spent much of his career as Head of Maintenance at Jones Beach State Park before becoming a certified HVAC technician. Outside of work, Jim had a deep love for his country, the military, and President Donald Trump. He also found great joy in gardening and loved cutting fresh bouquets from his gardens to brighten his home.
Jim is survived by his siblings, Ray, Jeanette, Peggy (Wayne), and Donna (Lance). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as his sisters-in-law, Patricia Donahue (Neal) and Susan Lester (Doug), and his brother-in-law, George.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond G. Grieshaber and Frances Lois Grieshaber (née Seiders); his older brother, Tommy Grieshaber; and his brother-in-law, Roy Johnson.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Roma Funeral Home, 539 William Floyd Parkway, Shirley, NY 11967. Jim was laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery on Monday, August 3, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Jim’s honor.
