March 25, 1948 ~ May 31, 2022
Mrs. Catherine “Cathy” Junod Gustafson, 74, loving wife, mother, grandmother, true friend and inspiration to us all, died May 31, 2022, at Hospice Home at High Point. Her death was due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Known to many friends and family as “Gussy,” Cathy was born March 25, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of the late Louis and Frances Junod. After growing up in Wantagh, Long Island, New York, she later lived in Atlanta, Georgia, Hilton Head, South Carolina, and lastly, High Point, North Carolina. On October 9, 1968, she married Ronald Gustafson who survives of the residence.
Also surviving is her daughter, Stacey Armstrong (Michael) of High Point, NC; son, Scott Gustafson (Dion Cavataio) of Seattle, WA; two brothers, Michael Junod of Roswell, GA and Tom Junod (Janet) of Marietta, GA; and three grandchildren, Blake, Davis and Zachary Armstrong.
Cathy’s friends and family remember her as a kind and beautiful person, who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Her smile was never without lipstick, and her laugh warmed every heart. In years prior to her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Cathy and Ron enjoyed the beaches of New York and the Carolinas. When they were young, Cathy enjoyed four-wheeling on the beaches of eastern Long Island with her two children and many friends. Cathy and Ron loved adventure and enjoyed their family log cabin in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Years later and in the early years of retirement, they enjoyed their Airstream trailer and RV, motorcycles, boats and a restored Volkswagen Beatle.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation which will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, in the Life Tribute Center at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point. A celebration of life service for Cathy will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Life Tribute Center officiated by Rev. Bob Cook. The family will continue their time of visitation following the ceremony.
