September 9, 1942 – April 24, 2023
Although Charlie was not born in Wantagh, he lived there nearly all of his life. After high school, he attended St. Johns and then took a civilian job with the NYPD–and stayed there for his whole working life. He must have known hundreds of cops in the city over his career, because his brother reports that many of them showed up unexpectedly for his wake, telling stories about him that his family never knew.
Also telling stories were about 20 of his friends from the Wantagh Knights of Columbus, where he had been elected Grand Knight not once, but twice! As Lynne and Tony have posted, Charlie was an active parishioner at St. Frances de Chantal R.C. Church.
He was an avid bowler and a member of a bowling team and also enjoyed playing volleyball.
We lost Charlie on April 24 to Carcinoid syndrome, an intestinal disease which includes a slow-growing form of cancer.
