Mrs. Clara Sugar was the epitome of southern hospitality. She was warm, sweet and welcoming to everyone lucky enough to make her acquaintance. She was a groundbreaking educator that inspired her peers to excel and her students to learn. Her legend reached every school district throughout the state. No matter how far away from Wantagh I traveled, every teacher in every music department had tremendous respect and fond memories of Mrs. Sugar. Every moment in her presence was a moment of joy and happiness. I am certain that the angels in Heaven have a new Choir Director, and they have never sounded so good. Cherish the memories you have of Mrs. Sugar and honor her by sprinkling some joy upon on another!

Mrs. Sugar was one of the best teachers ever. She instilled a life long appreciation of music in her students. Every year on Halloween I listen to Danse Macabre because of her and while it plays I picture the ghosts and skeletons dancing and the rooster crowing and I sing “H-A-double L-O-W-double E-N spells Halloween” just the way she taught me to 40 years or so ago. My deepest condolences go out to her family and loved one.
